Who Influences Me?

In a recent study done in 2021, it was estimated that individuals consume about 11.1 hours of media per day. Needless to say, the type of content we consume and the curators of this content really matter, as it influences the way we think and feel about many aspects of life.

There are a lot of people that influence me on social media, and it is usually the same content creators and media across all platforms. I like content that inspires me, whether that be lifestyle, food, travel, fitness, or fashion. TikTok has been a really big source of influence in recent months. I prefer this over all other platforms because the content is really curated towards my interests and it serves as a constant form of entertainment. I use social media and influencers as a source of inspiration, they influence me in the sense that I purchase a lot of clothing and household items based off of these individuals recommendations. I am easily influenced to make these purchases due to how easy it is to order things nowadays and how quickly trends are created across all platforms.

The influencers that I follow are constantly promoting quality products that they actually use, and I like to follow a lot of sustainable and eco-friendly influencers, who only promote things that are consciously made or good for the environment. I think it is important to have a radar for authentic influencers v. influencers who are just trying to sell any product for profit. Some examples of influencers I follow are: Clara Peirce, Avery Steeves, Kristin Hollinghaus

Overall, it is a little bit scary to think about how easily I, as well as the rest of the world around me, is influenced. When it comes to certain things like politics and lifestyle habits, I think it is important that we stay true to our own opinions and formulate our own beliefs. But when it comes to things like fashion, travel, and lifestyle content, I think we can use influencers as a source of inspiration.
